The initial jacket foundations for the East Anglia One wind farm’s 102 turbines off the coast of Suffolk have been erected. ScottishPower Renewables, the energy giant behind the project, has invested £2.5 billion to assist with powering 500,000* homes.
The largest number of three-legged structures ever installed in a wind farm will reach depths of down to 55 metres. East Anglia One will be located in the Southern North Sea, southeast of Lowestoft and generate 714 Megawatts.
“This project makes our expertise in the installation of foundations even broader. So far only a handful of wind farms have been constructed on jacket foundations. Their number will increase in the years ahead because the ideal locations for wind farms built on monopiles – shallow waters with a relatively flat, firm seabed – are filling up fast.” – Project Director Daan Makkink.
Other projects to follow East Anglia One are East Anglia Two and Three. Combined they will produce a Megawatt output of 2100 across a surface area spanning 560km². Public information days relating to the development and construction of East Anglia Two found in the table below:
